VA Housing Grants September 2025: Veterans Eligible for $120K+ in Benefits

Finding a safe and accessible place to live is one of the biggest challenges for veterans with service-connected disabilities.
To help, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers several housing assistance programs that provide funds for home remodeling, construction, and accessibility upgrades.
VA Housing Grant Amounts in 2025
Veterans may qualify for different grants depending on their disability and living situation:
-
Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) Grant: Up to $121,812 in 2025. This program is the largest housing benefit, designed for veterans with severe disabilities such as the loss of multiple limbs, total blindness, or extensive burn injuries. Funds can be used to build a new accessible home or remodel an existing one. The grant may be used up to six times in a lifetime.
-
Special Housing Adaptation (SHA) Grant: Up to $24,405. This grant supports home adaptations for conditions like the loss of both hands or serious respiratory injuries. Veterans can apply these funds to a house they own or one owned by a family member.
-
Temporary Residence Adaptation (TRA) Grant: Up to $49,062 for SAH-eligible veterans, or $8,760 for those under SHA. This program helps when veterans are living temporarily in a relative’s home and need modifications to make the space livable.
