Social Security Payment Schedule for October 2026

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive payments on different dates in October 2026. Your payment date depends on the type of benefit you receive, when you started receiving Social Security and, for many beneficiaries, your birthday.

October 2026 payment dates

The October 2 payment is scheduled early because October 3 falls on a Saturday. The regular Wednesday payments are based on the beneficiary’s date of birth.
 

Social Security payments based on birthdays

Most retirement, survivor and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries who began receiving benefits after May 1997 are paid on one of three Wednesdays:

• October 14: Birthdays from the 1st through the 10th.

• October 21: Birthdays from the 11th through the 20th.

• October 28: Birthdays from the 21st through the 31st.

For example, someone born on October 7 would generally receive their payment on October 14. Someone born on October 23 would generally be paid on October 28.

The payment schedule is based on the day of the month you were born, not the month or year of your birth.
 

Why SSI recipients get two payments in October

SSI recipients will receive two deposits in October:

• October 1: October’s SSI payment.

• October 30: November’s SSI payment.

The October 30 deposit is not a bonus or an extra benefit. November 1 falls on a Sunday, so the Social Security Administration sends the payment on the previous business day. 

There will be no separate SSI payment on November 1. The October 30 deposit is intended to cover the November benefit.

Who receives the October 2 payment?

The October 2 payment is for:

• People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997.

• People who receive both Social Security and SSI.

If you receive both benefits, your October schedule is generally:

• October 1: SSI payment.

• October 2: Social Security payment.

This group does not follow the birthday-based Wednesday schedule. 
 

What if your payment is late?

If your Social Security or SSI payment does not arrive on the expected date:

1. Check your bank account or Direct Express card.

2. Confirm the payment date through your my Social Security account.

3. Contact your bank or financial institution.

4. Wait up to three additional mailing days before contacting the SSA about a missing payment.

A delay may result from bank processing, weekends, holidays or a problem with your payment information. Do not share your Social Security number or banking details with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
